Many couples lack sexual intimacy at some point during their relationships. Sexual fantasies by either partner can often be a precursor to infidelity and extra marital affairs.
Intimacy is an integral part of any relationship. However, the reasons why people look for sex outside of a relationship is usually because the relationship is lacking in emotional closeness. Men in particular are prone to view their self esteem through their sexuality. They are more visual than women when is when it comes to sex which is why they are more likely to be addicted to pornography.
When men have intimacy issues and the relationship starts to break down and they are no longer having the fulfilling sex that they used to at the start of the relationship. They may start to objectify sex and look outside of the relationship. They may consider pornography or webcamming thinking that this will not damage their relationship as they are not having physical contact with the other person.
However this can become more serious and damaging to the relationship when it starts to become an addiction. I have spoken as a coach to many men who say that the amount of time they spend fantasizing about pornography or fetishes can be so detrimental that even their work life suffers not to mention the risk to their relationship.
This can be dangerous when the partner decides to cross the point and actually carry out their fantasy. Many women offer what men consider to be non-sexual services such as domination, and therefore if the man is married they may in their minds eye feel that they are not cheating on their partner. They engage in what is known as fantasy role play and are able to carry out their sexual fantasies usually without the knowledge of their partner. They believe that their own partners can no longer give them what they desire and this further pushes their relationship apart.
